Barmouth

Barmouth, where the mountains meet the sea, has been welcoming visitors for over 150 years. Now we want to welcome you to discover the area, the people, the scenery and to relax, chill out and rediscover yourself.

The sunsets are amazing. The town is on the west coast of Wales, looking out onto Cardigan Bay, in the southern part of Snowdonia. So if you are looking for the outdoors - walking, cycling, paddleboarding, kayaking, paddling in the sea or building sandcastles then Barmouth is the perfect centre. Barmouth's history can be explored via the Heritage Trail, and visiting the two museums. There is a wide range of independent shops, cafes. pubs and restaurants, so a day can be spent browsing, dipping in and out of shops with regular coffee stops, and maybe an ice cream on the harbour watching the boats and seagulls. From Barmouth there are many places you can go for a day out. You can explore slate mines, travel on heritage steam trains, visit castles gardens and prehistoric monuments.  For the adrenaline junkies why not visit Adventure Parc Snowdonia which is a short drive away.

On your doorstep..

The Beach

Barmouth Beach is nestled between craggy mountains and the often crashing sea and is known for being the most popular beach in all of the southern Snowdonia area.

It has a European Blue Flag status which assures you of having met the very strict criteria on water quality. Locally there are shops to buy beach “gear” at reasonable prices. You can rent a body board, paddle board or kayak, have paddle board lessons in the nearby harbour, go sea fishing, take a ferry to the nearby Fairbourne or just sit and relax with a good book enjoying the stunning scenery.

It retains much of its traditional seaside charm with pursuits such as donkey rides, swing boats, and amusement arcades all on offer. In keeping there is a pleasant promenade skirts Barmouth Beach and during the summer months a land train runs along it.

The Town and Harbour

Barmouth is a great base for walkers. As well as providing easy access to many of Snowdonia’s finest peaks Barmouth is the starting point for several well-marked walks and cycle trails. You can even hire bikes for the day at the Birmingham garage. The Tourist Information Point in Barmouth Station has books and maps and can suggest routes for all abilities.

If culture is your thing then head for The Dragon Theatre.  Cleverly converted from an old chapel it offers a regular programme of films, shows, musical evenings and events throughout the year. There are also regular classes from fitness to art during the week. Details of all events are advertised outside the Dragon, around town and on their website.

There is regular live music in town. The Last Inn has an Open Mic night on Tuesday evening at 9pm and live music from 9pm on Friday. At the Min y Mor Hotel live music is a Sunday thing, On sunny days this is outside in the beer garden with unrivalled views of the beach and the Llŷn Peninsula as your backdrop.
